What is sciforum.net?

sciforum.net is a platform for organizing free to participate, electronic conferences for scientists. It is a project initiated by Molecular Diversity Preservation International (MDPI), an international organization based in Basel, Switzerland. MDPI has been well known for its project to preserve rare chemical samples. MDPI has also adventured into scientific Open Access (free access) publishing since 1996. Journals published include Molecules, an electronic, open access journal launched in 1996, the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, launched in 2000 and Sensors, launched in 2001.

Why e-Conferences?

Scientists have been accustomed to attend conferences, as they are an integral part of the scientific communication cycle. During conferences scientists have the chance to present their work and get first feedback from peers in the research community. They can also attend presentations from other scientists and gain an understanding of current trends within their disciplines. However, conferences require scientists for costly and time-consuming travels across the globe. It is often difficult to coordinate between attending different conferences, holding lectures at the university and making progress in the own research. e-Conferences are here to reduce the additional burden of attending physical conferences: one can attend an e-Conference from any place with Internet access and presentations from e-Conferences can be attended online at any time, even once the conference has closed.
